I never doubted for a second the intelligence of animals and sometimes I even wonder if they can be more intelligent than us. In the wild they would of course win by far compared to us if we had to live in the wild. It enrages me when someone disrespects animals and say that they are inferior to us. If all animals could talk, I'm sure they would all be little Victors. Animals even have an enormous power on our emotions like dolphins; researches are going on to find out if they communicate through telepathy, it wouldn't surprise me... I am a great animal lover and would like to research their intelligence levels and prove once and for all to the world that they are not inferior to us. I have a budgie of my own and a turtle, I've had many other budgies and other pets and they'll never cease to amaze me with their smart ways to get food, attention, etc. It's really sad that Victor couldn't have stayed with us longer. I would like to know, when the autopsy is done, what the cause of death was and if it was related to the pussy willow since I have one in my house and would like to know if it is safe. My budgie just goes crazy over Victor's recordings, I think he feels and agrees with him and he always tries to say the words when he listens to Victor. I hope one day people will acknowledge animals as intelligent beings that are just like us.

Hi Very interesting site. I have always felt that animals have more inteligence than we give them credit for. I don't think it's right that any animal or bird should be confined to a cage, (imagine how you would feel!) Even so, you have managed to communicate with them and I find it really amazing. Take care Jase.

I had a parakeet land on my shoulder last summer when I was feeding the wild birds. He was as blue as his eyes. After telling me that he was not a turkey...I kind of figured he must have gotten loose from someone working for the county fair. He also screamed three darts for a dollar!...He would also ask me if I needed to poop! Or he would ask me if I was stupid. wow. this bird was something else. one night our babysitter let him out and our cat attacked him. I was devastated! after a week went by he stopped eating and finally died one night in my hands.. I cried. We buried him next to our rose bush. Months later we bought another one but this ones eyes are brown..he hasent talked yet but hopefully one day he will. Our new bird listens to your Victor and goes crazy! He tips his water and bobs his head up and down. Thanks for your site and I sure am sorry about your bird. He sure sounded cool!

I would just like to say that Victors story does not surprise me one bit as I have shared life with 3 birds of my own befor and the only way I could describe the general personality of my birds to someone when asked was to tell them that they are very much like toddler children in almost every way the most being that they are so eager to learn. Yours is a wonderful story and it deeply saddens me that you lost your little talking friend I lost one of my own three years ago and life has never been the same. Some day another little feathered friend will come into my life again and another adventure will start with what might be one of the smartest creatures on earth. One thing for certain there's never a dull moment living with a bird, the most ausome experience I've ever had in my life.

What a wonderful site you've made to honor Victor. I have a Timneh African Grey and I've known for years about parrots, especially Greys, and their ability to talk in context. I've seen and read all about Alex but what I've learned in the last few days about Victor and Betty is amazing! And you're quite right about how hard it is to understand their accent. I'm used to Grey with their clarity but what you've discovered is truly a breakthrough and I hope Irene Pepperberg has been advised of this. I'm looking forward to reading all you have to offer on this subject.

i wanted to express my appreciation for your entertaining and informative website. most of my friends think i'm a little "obsessed" at times with my feathered amigo, julio, but they just don't understand our special kind of love. he enjoys hearing the recordings of victor and i play them for him on a regular basis. (i'm also hoping it will influence him a little too, i've only had him since mid-april but i'm really hoping he'll have a talkative personality, like me, haha.) anyway, thanks again for putting this out there, it's one of the best sites i've found. carla "bird is the word" s.

I think this site is incredible, and so was your bird, Victor! I am a complete believer in everything that is presented on this site, and I have enjoyed listening to Victor's audio recordings.. he's one smart budgie! I've raised cockatiels before and have taught them to talk, but they NEVER talked to the extent of your budgie! I am now raising and taming a young male cobalt budgie named Kirby. I want him to feel very comfortable around me so that I can try to teach him to talk as well. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear about Victor's passing.. but I'm glad he was able to leave behind some of his knowledge to his friend,Betty!

have a Senegal Parrot, Sunshine. She is 2 years old. She makes the sound of the phone, several different whistles, and gives kisses. I can't get her to say words. The library no longer carries tapes as they were old & destroyed. Any suggestions on where I can get a tape to play while I'm at work? Your budgie is TREMENDOUS! How much time did you spend teaching at any one time?

Firstly i just want to say how sorry i am to hear about the loss of Victor, i have a budgie(sparky) and i know how important these playful ball of feathers become to you! The story of Victor was really touching and it moved me alot.I thought it was adorable when you talked about Victor's first love Fuzzy his little toy.Sparky my female budgie is also like this, she absolutly adores her little bell in her cage with which see will happily sleep on her head, awwww! Reading Victor's story i was astounded by Victor's free mind way of speaking in which i mean able to make up own sentences, use them at the right time and know axactly what he is saying, way more advanced than Alex the African Grey! Victor was and still is the most intelligent and remarkable bird around!!! Not forgeting Betty either who is also a charming little bird too!!! Thanx for such a brilliant, moving and informative site it's a must see for all budgie owners, i'll be coming back again and again, highly recomendable!!! All our best Louise(17) and sparky(4) P.S Budgies are the BEST!!!!!!

Victor is the most adoreable pet I have ever seen. I can understand him, but not your other birds. Perhaps many of us have talking budgies and dont know they they are talking. I do believe birds are very intellegent. I own 2 budgies, and I am trying to tame them. I would love to find a talking bird to teach them.

I listen to Victor and Betty almost every day with my budgie named PeeWee. He is very young, only about 5 months old. I am trying very hard to get him to learn to talk. Listening to Victor and Betty is part of our programme. My budgie is now a computer geek and thinks he has exclusive rights to the computer because he thinks other budgies live there. Thank you very much for your wonderful website. Susan and PeeWee

Ryan, I was so moved when I read about Victor. He was so intellegent.. much more than many people are. I understood what he was saying and I hope others are able to get his message. I believe animals are our equals. They have the same feelings and thoughts we have, however many times they go unnoticed. You were blessed to have such an intelligent and beautiful bird, and Victor was lucky to have a family that loved him so much and cared about what he had to say. Thank you so much for allowing others to experience your incredible story.
